How do I get a library card?
All King Middle School students and staff have borrowing privileges at the King Library.  You do not need a library card to check out books, but showing your school ID to the staff at the circulation desk is helpful.

What are my responsibilities when I check out library materials?
Part of your responsibility as a student at King is to keep the books in good condition and to return or renew your library materials on time. We want our books to be available to other students as soon as you are no longer using them.

Students are allowed to check out a maximum of 4 books.  If you require more for homework or for an assignment, the library staff will allow for additional books.

Where do I return materials?
When the library is open, you should return materials to the Return Books slot at the end of the Circulation Desk.

How do I find books?
The greatest resource for locating books and things in the library is the librarian.  Please feel free to ask questions of the staff.  Helping you find information is the main part of our job.  You can also search for books in the King Library Catalog

What if a book is not on the shelf or the library doesn't own it?
If a book is not on the shelf, check with Mr. Holmes or Ms. Zemach.  They can tell you if it is checked out or missing.  If the book is checked out, a reserve can be placed. When the book comes in you will be notified. If the book is missing, we can help you determine which libraries nearby have the book.

What programs do you have after school?
The After School Library Homework Center meets in the library after school Monday through Thursday. You must be signed up for the after school program in order to attend.

What about fines?
King Library does not charge overdue fines. If you lose or damage a book, you are responsible for repair or replacement of the book.

How can I use the computers?
Computers in the King library are provided to support you in your academic success. First priority for computer use is for classes working on school projects, and for individual students doing school work. We have 18 computers on the main library floor, and  we also have a 14-station computer lab for use by classes.

During lunch, students may use the computers for their own personal interests with the following understandings:
  • First priority for use is for students working on class assignments. Please ask if you need a computer for school work.
  • Social networking sites are not allowed by district policy.
  • Personal email is not allowed. If you need to check email for a school assignment, please clear with library staff before doing so.
  • Inappropriate websites are not allowed.
  • Please do not change any of the computer settings, or modify the desktop in any way.
  • If you have any questions or concerns with the computers, please ask for assistance; do not attempt to "fix" a computer on your own.
